Cattle with a long and deep metacarpus are preferred to ensure a high intake of forage. Animals with a very coarse bone structure are excluded from breeding. Animals with a smaller head and dark pigmentation are preferred in the selection.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span>Aimed body weight of the cow: 650 to 750 kg.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Muscling<\/strong> in the back and hindquarters should be well developed. However, the mother cow should not lose her feminine character.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>foundations<\/strong> should be faultlessly formed. lightly angulated, dry hocks, tight pasterns, well closed claws with high heels are to be aimed for.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hoof growth<\/strong> and wear should be in balance. Hoof care should not become the rule, but only the exception.<\/p>\n<p>High-sitting <strong>udders<\/strong> with teats of medium size are aimed for. This makes it easier for newborn calves to find the teats, reduces the risk of udder soiling and the occurrence of mastitis. Deep thigh udder attachment is desirable.<\/p>\n<p>The Fleckvieh suckler cow should reach a <strong>milk yield<\/strong> of 4000 to 5000 kg milk from the basic feed at a ten-month lactation. With a requirement of 10 kg milk for one kilogram live weight gain of the calves, weaning weights of over 400 kg can be expected. A lower milk yield would reduce the weaning weights, and too high a milk yield would lead to a reduction in body substance if only basic feed is consumed, and would also increase the risk of mastitis.<\/p>\n<p>Daily gains of over 1400 grams are expected from <strong>male calves<\/strong> and over 1000 grams from <strong>female calves.<\/strong> In <strong>breeding work<\/strong>, great attention is paid to improving the trait commercial class classification. <strong>Slaughter animals<\/strong> should be classified exclusively in commercial classes E and U.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" id=\"style-css-av-d97vc-a1535ce17f3c872123bb55ee813c3f1f\">\n.flex_column.av-d97vc-a1535ce17f3c872123bb55ee813c3f1f{\nborder-radius:0px 0px 0px 0px;\npadding:0px 0px 0px 0px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<div  class='flex_column av-d97vc-a1535ce17f3c872123bb55ee813c3f1f av_one_half  avia-builder-el-8  el_after_av_one_half  avia-builder-el-last  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding  '     ><p><section  class='av_textblock_section av-kn1ypdgq-b8dd35fd73b3ce070cca7788048b4885 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>In order to meet the requirements of animal welfare, to keep the care effort low and to fulfil the prerequisites for economic production, the <strong>fitness traits<\/strong> are of great importance.<\/p>\n<p>The following parameters are aimed for:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cow service life:<\/strong> at least 10 calvings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Persistenz:<\/strong> flat lactation curve to meet the milk requirement of the calf.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fertility:<\/strong> inter-calving period less than 365 days, insemination index less than 1.5;<br \/>\nless than 10 % of cow exitis due to fertility problems;<br \/>\nCalving rate greater than 90 %.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Calving process: <\/strong>at least 90 % of calvings without human assistance;<br \/>\nHeavy birth rate less than 5 %, stillbirth rate less than 3 %.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  class='hr av-9alm0-10d102a4798743bf0461431885fe36e7 hr-default  avia-builder-el-10  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner '><span class=\"hr-inner-style\"><\/span><\/span><\/div><br \/>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-kn1yrsya-7b63b3b7faf97e672175a06c3dbc84d5 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>In addition, animals with a low susceptibility to mastitis and claw diseases are preferred in the selection.<\/p>\n<p>Another important trait is good temperament. Animals with good character traits make herd management much easier.
